Revising Writing.

We rewrite to learn, we turn our past mistakes of writing into something more approachable to read. I haven't received feedback on any of my posts however have many experience in the rewriting world.  I read four articles based on improving my academic writing, these will be huge help for rewriting in the future. They spoke about paragraphs, sentences which all seem pretty standard but as you get older your writing has to follow up many levels than just secondary school writing. A paragraph speaks about one idea in a series of sentences. It should be approximately 5-6 sentences and includes 250 words. Paragraphs give structure to your reading. The layout is the first thing a reader see's when turning the page and it wouldn't be satisfactory to see a bunch of words together with no break. The should be divided into three sections; Beginning- this will be the topic sentence. The Middle- Supporting the issue being raised. The End- Conclusion.   I also read an article on 9 ba...

Reading Techniques

Image
I have read two articles on reading techniques, one helped us to learn and understand critical reading techniques and the other was on active reading, both feeding us mountains of information with how we can get work/study done in a more sufficient way. When I read about critical reading techniques, I found it to be very insightful for future readings/study. You should always know what you are reading was a point that really stood out to me because in truth not everyone does. From my own experience of secondary school majority of people would be asking their friends what topic/page we were on, because they had lost track due to their lack of understanding. School subjects are so broad that you aren't going to be the best in every class but you also shouldn't be afraid to raise your hand when you do not understand something. But with time confidence grows.  In the article it states that it is key to make sure you're in a comfortable space. Library's are amazing for this ...

Media Ethics

Image
Media Ethics describes the proper modes of which all branches that media today should attempt to adhere to. This includes television, radio, the internet etc.  When watching video 3 "How Dark Patterns Trick You Online". It's absolutely crazy that this act is probably someone's job how to design a certain piece to "trick" us into paying for things or making it very hard when wanting to delete an account. I believe that we have all been victims to. I have never heard of the game "Two Dots" before however I did think it was very clever of them to use the colour green to pay for items,  as green in majority of games symbolizes good, for example you've reached the next level, or to start or play the game.  I personally have been in a certain incident when using an app which I use to edit pictures, its called "Instasize" this is a free App. It uses ads which are very easy to click on and anytime and I want to transfer the picture to my ca...

Peer Review #1

Image
Feedback or feedforward? In this blog I will be discussing things I have learned from reading 4 articles and my own experience of reviewing two of my peers work. I prefer the term feedforward after reading Marshal Goldsmith article "Try Feedforward instead of Feedback" ( marshallgoldsmith.com/articles, 2015) He spoke about it being a more positive way of helping someone to grow/learn. Feedback mainly focuses on failures in the past which can be very daunting for some but also can be very awkward when giving negative feedback. Feedforward gives someone discipline, but is also a way for them to not make the same mistake twice like an alternative and how to turn the negative past into a present positive, this gives people more of a confidence boost rather than lowering their self esteem and work ethic.  Feedforward has many benefits it:  People listen more. Covers the same material in a positive way. Not awkward for either person. Person will still feel comfortable to ask for he...

Learning about Production Process.

Image
Todays Blog I will be writing about Production Process and what I have learned from todays video task.  In my opinion Design Thinking to me is a process in which we think to create the likes of a documentary/film and how we have steps to follow in order to achieve our goals.  Its important to be aware of design thinking because there are many different elements of thought process that you have to consider, for example your target audience and how to satisfy them, its not something you can do overnight. I think you should apply design thinking to many things like documentary's, movies, news, even YouTube videos, because for each one you need to have a plan in place in order to succeed. You need to apply a good amount of time in order to have plenty of content for even the likes of a five minute video. Each stage must be considered which they spoke about in the previous videos, Empathise, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Testing. Without the likes of these stages your video...

Digital Media

Image
Today I will be writing a blog about three videos I watched based on digital literacy, what it is?why it matters? And the elements of digital literacies.    Digital media to me consisted of things like my phone/laptop/iPad and how I have the access to a wide range of information. The video made me think about how much has evolved within digital media for things like how quickly we can access information we are not even looking for, for example advertisements before YouTube videos. Another scary thing can be how others get caught up in what people are portraying online that we almost forget to question, what if this article, picture, or post isn't all that true? I thought working in the digital media sector these days you would have to be extremely skilled in software developments/updates, you would need serious communication skills(however that's a given in majority of jobs) and being able to work PowerPoint/photoshop/HTML etc.  In these videos and some res...

Study Skills

Image
Today I watched three videos on the concept of reading. They mainly included active reading and study strategies, which are amazing help when being a new college student. Some ideas they spoke about were very similar to the way I would've studied for the likes of the leaving certificate and level five exams.  In the first video we learned about the top three science based study tips from Mike, which were quizzing, spacing and mixing subjects. My main method of study and I personally think is most commonly used would be quizzing, I would always use this on myself after a few minutes of studying and I feel this gets the best results.  When it comes to active reading I would have never really considered doing this before because I feel I need to read the book in full to completely understand what's going on, and the fear of missing a major chapter or part. I do think this video that Thomas Frank has created, changed my mind on it because there are so many ways of act...
