Rewrite #2

Before Rewrite- https://ocemma.blogspot.com/2021/10/digital-media.html

Today I will be writing a blog about three videos I watched based on digital literacy, what it is? Why it matters? And the elements of digital literacies.

Digital media to me consisted of things like my phone/laptop/iPad and how we have access to a wide range of information. The video made me think about how much has evolved within digital media for things like how quickly we can access information we are not even looking for, for example advertisements before YouTube videos. Another scary thing can be how others get caught up in what people are portraying online that we almost forget to question, what if this article, picture, or post isn't all that true?

I thought working in the digital media sector these days you would have to be extremely skilled in software developments/updates, you would need serious communication skills(however that's a given in majority of jobs) and being able to work PowerPoint/photoshop/HTML etc.

In these videos and some researching of my own, I discovered there is much more required to digital media, but I also learned from these videos how so much of it has changed. We and the people in this profession have still a lot to do, however it requires a little less effort than years ago. For example the use of multiple floppy discs for storage, where we have everything on one laptop/computer that we can use to store and save the information we need, and how processing took ages as Doug Belshaw spoke about the downloading of a single image was like using the Wi-Fi on a UK train(which never really works.)and now you can have images sent to another device in seconds.

The way of media has evolved massively even when speaking to my parents which they watched change overtime. We went from the traditional way of getting the latest news through newspapers and fashion ideas in magazines, to now having social media influencers to decide what's in the style this season and what were once newspapers are now apps. In my opinion it's both sad but good especially if we want to keep up with the world today.

There are many different ways that traditional media differs to digital media. In my opinion they have both positives and negatives. Digital Media is faster way of getting information which is brilliant when being a student. It also is open to everyone and gives people a platform to voice their own opinions, and its amazing for connecting to others abroad. The other side can have a negative impact in some who begin to obsess with news and social media.

People create media everyday and for so many reasons like: creating content for others to learn this could be in images/articles, also the creator benefits by getting free publicity. Its a way of connecting the world, and for entertainment like pictures/videos whether its for enjoyment or learning purposes.

"The Medium is the message" was once said by Marshall McLuhan(McLuhan M, 1964)  if you take medium to be media you read "the media is the message." To me this sounds as if media is the way of the world, it almost makes it sounds as if it shapes us, as if it was going to be the next best thing.

Overall, I believe the media does shape our world whether we want to believe it or not. It shown between what people talk about daily in the world for example the pandemic but then it happens in small towns and villages of people getting the latest "gossip" and through the source of digital media.
